With this new Zarcillo Award, the Junta de Castilla y León wants to recognize the work of the most outstanding professionals in the wine sector so that their good work serves as inspiration to continue the path of effort and innovation. It is not about rewarding a wine but a lifetime of dedication and enthusiasm. There are no nominations nor entries; the experts will decide.
Alejandro Fernández is a universal icon in the world of wine. From Pesquera de Duero, his hometown, he became one of the great protagonists of Spanish wine, a reference and founder of Ribera del Duero and one of the architects of the Spanish wine revolution, opening the doors of the whole world to his winemaking.
Pioneer and entrepreneur, this winemaker managed -in difficult and complicated times- to trace the path to the wine sector in Castilla y León and gave it the impetus and necessary momentum to create the thriving sector that it represents today, with the same spirit with which the brilliant Winemaker began: from the terroir to the 'universal'.
